As the public increasingly adopts mobile devices to access the web, the new responsive design for and will work with all platforms (smart phones, tablets, computers) and resolutions to optimize the customer experience.  So, the same high-quality content will better fit smaller devices.  This all means the public can access key, trusted government information at their fingertips wherever they are and whenever they want it.

This responsive design is part of the federal government’s ongoing effort to make information more accessible to all Americans.  It’s in line with the Administration’s Digital Government Strategy, an effort to transform public-facing government services in line with 21st century expectations.  The new responsive design also adheres to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which ensures access to government information for people with disabilities.

Responsive design also represents a significant cost savings to the government since the content is developed and maintained once and optimally displayed in all devices.  It is also future ready to adapt to new devices entering the marketplace.
