On May 9th, GSA announced the winner of its most recent federal prize competition, which asked entrants to develop and submit a tool to help agencies gain key insights and drive cost savings on federal travel. GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service joined the Office of Governmentwide Policy as part of a government-wide data initiative to bring a useful visualization tool to agencies to aid in managing federal travel programs.
The winning entrant, Gregg Parish, designed an innovative technology tool using open source code to help agencies better visualize and understand their data, compare their travel spending against key benchmarks, and identify behaviors that can be taken to reduce costs on future travel. This user interface tool provides visualization, flexibility and configurability when using fully leveraged data sources from GSA’s Travel Management Information Service (TMIS) 2.0. After continued internal development, this tool will be rolled out to agencies to use in managing their travel programs.
