Tapas: Spend an hour or so looking for what agencies are doing as part of the Digital Government Strategy.
Instructions: Browse federal government blogs and agency press releases to find government stories about their digital gov innovations. It could be about releasing an API, a mobile application, their work in opening data, a hackathon or datapalooza, or how their digital work has an impact on their stakeholders. Put the URL for the specific blog entry or press release directly in the comments for this post. Include your name and agency affiliation (so we can acknowledge your contribution). We’ll review and reblog your found treasures.
Story guidelines: We are most interested in stories about how agencies are serving the public, but won’t totally disregard enterprise successes. We are interested in reposting primarily from government sources–but a really great news story may work in some cases.
You can see some examples on the Center blog, like:
- From the Department of Labor: Job Search Tools are Going Mobile
- From Department of Transportation: Redesigned www.dot.gov draws a crowd… and goes responsive
- From Department of Energy: Department of Energy Implements APIs in the Cloud
For context, this task is important so agencies can see what others are doing to spur ideas and learn from others’ experiences. Agencies might find opportunities to partner. It’s all part of the formula to help agencies jumpstart their efforts to build a 21st century digital government.
Duration: < 1 hour
Deadline: This is an ongoing task. You can volunteer to do it once, or many times.

Natasha, great question! And sorry that we weren’t clearer.
We are looking for government stories of their accomplishments. It could be about releasing an API, a mobile application, their work in opening data, a hackathon or datapalooza, or how their digital work has an impact on their stakeholders–we are much more interested in stakeholders outside of the federal workforce, but won’t totally disregard enterprise successes. We are interested in reblogging or reposting from government sources–but a really great news story may work in some cases.
Sources are primarily federal government blogs and press releases from agencies. You can see some examples on the Center blog, like:
From the Dept of Labor: http://gsablogs.gsa.gov/dsic/2013/01/18/job-search-tools-are-going-mobile/
From Dept of Transportation: http://gsablogs.gsa.gov/dsic/2012/12/17/redesigned-www-dot-gov-draws-a-crowd-and-goes-responsive/
From Energy: http://gsablogs.gsa.gov/dsic/2012/11/25/department-of-energy-implements-apis-in-the-cloud/
For a little more context, this is important so agencies can see what others are doing. This helps them get ideas, learn from other experiences and may offer opportunities to partner. And that all helps agencies jumpstart their process and get their own products to the public faster. So, finding and sharing these great examples and stories helps us to build that 21st century digital government.
I update the posting to match these requirements. Thanks a bunch for pushing us to be clearer in our requirements. It helps you to succeed, which helps us to succeed.

Thanks for the clarification.
