GSA is leading with innovation to better serve our partner federal agencies and to drive cost savings governmentwide while providing the tools agencies need to serve the American people. This includes our travel programs, which help federal agencies secure deals on official travel everyday. But now it’s time to take things to the next level and to aim higher. It’s time to further ensure that travel is done in the most efficient and effective way possible, and that our efforts will help other agencies to do the same.
GSA’s Travel Data Challenge is that next step – a new, first-of-its-kind, public prize competition that widens our focus in serving agencies and in driving cost savings across the federal government. The Travel Data Challenge asks the public to design and create an interactive digital tool – using sample GSA travel data – that will allow agencies to make smarter decisions and save taxpayer dollars. GSA is looking for cutting-edge software design that enhances transparency and helps to hold agencies accountable on travel spending, while also providing federal agencies with the best recommendations on how to reduce travel costs.
The ultimate goal of the tool is to help federal agencies drive cost-saving behaviors in travel through easy-to-understand information. By issuing a competition, the government can harness the best ideas from the public and industry alike. This challenge builds on the cost savings we deliver everyday through our travel programs like SmartPay, City Pairs, FedRooms, and our per diem reimbursement rates.
