For more than a year, GSA has been hard at work “Making It Easier”(MIE) to do business with the government. Our MIE initiative contains a series of business-friendly, proactive programs that provide start-ups, small businesses, and other suppliers with the tools and support they need to work with government.  A major goal of MIE is to make it faster and easier for businesses, both traditional companies and those offering emerging technologies, on the Multiple Award Schedules (MAS).

HOW MIE IS MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Over the years, our industry partners have told us that getting on Schedule contracts can be very difficult, especially for a company inexperienced in federal contracting. We’ve taken this feedback seriously and initially began our process by creating  useful  tools for Schedule 70, the Schedule for IT goods and services.  As a result, we’re seeing newer and more innovative companies on Schedule 70 than ever before – small businesses included. Now our attention turns to expanding on this success and working to simplify the overall process of becoming a MAS contract holder.

MAKING IT EASIER TO GET ON MAS

GSA’s website is full of information about the contract award process, but interviews with industry tell us many find the Federal Acquisition Service’s (FAS) pages jargon-heavy with important information sometimes hard to find. Many also say they find the process of getting on the Multiple Award Schedules (MAS) confusing. This can be a barrier for new companies trying to do business with the government, and can especially affect small and innovative ones

But that’s changing, thanks to GSA’s MAS Roadmap, a new website that makes it easier for businesses of all sizes to get on Schedule. Taking a page from our successful IT Schedule 70 Plain Language Roadmap, the MAS Roadmap is a robust website that offers support to potential new offerors by breaking down the process of getting on Schedule into discrete, easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

Getting companies and emerging technologies onto Schedules and into the hands of customer agencies faster is a key goal of GSA’s plan to make it easier for industry partners to do business with the government and the MAS Roadmap is a crucial part of making that happen. By making it easier and faster to get on Schedule, we enable companies to provide products and services at the speed of innovation, addressing the rapid pace and growth of the government’s needs.
